Well I bought my mini about 5 yrs ago now in a sorry green state, there was nothing for it but a bare shell rebuild. I was at uni at the time hence it taking so long and still not finished. Below is what she looked like on day 1. The engine that you see there is now in the back of my garage, its way past its best and very much stripped down, I do however have everything off it (may come in useful later), it appears as tho the previous owner was planning a turbo conversion but never got that far.

A respray in something unmissable was called for:

And then lots of work and a "new" (replacement) engine. The guy I bought it from said it was a totally standard 1275.

Its a little further on now with the wiring loom almost complete, a fuel cell in the boot and a facet red top fuel pump. The nitrous kit has come out and put on the shelf, that may go back in at a later date after the turbo.

Now the question is what do I need to do to turbo it. If I go the turbo route I will go for the Mirage Manifold option so as not to mod the bulkhead.

First off the engine number is 12HC14AA, I believe its an MG block but no idea if its a turbo block, it just so happens to be exactly the same number as the old engine, more info on the engine would be great.

Off the old engine as I said I have all the parts, including a HIF44 with a BDL needle, the inlet manifold for it and the black box thing (im sure it has a name) that fits to the back, and a distributor with AUU1080 2002 stamped on it and a 9 EM Ignition Module on the side. I know the 44 will be ideal, not sure on the needle and no idea at all on the dizzy.

Other than that im all ears *happy*

I havent run the n2o at all, the kit came with the engine and I dont believe he ran it either, he was using it to build a racer but came across a bike engine and went for the conversion.

Dont worry mate, itll last. *smiley*
If you go turbo route you might be best going for a new low comp (Benross :))head if the engine is running okay. IE no knocks or major ngine leaks

BDL is a standard MG metro NA needle so OK as a basic starting point for a turbo engine but a starting point will be about all it is usually. Black box I take it you mean the plenum chamber, yes you will require this,

plenum chamber thats the one. to me it doesnt look like the inlet port bends over and down as much as others i have seen.

what about the dizzy? is that any good. its not the one that is currently fitted incidentally and has been in a box of parts for a number of yrs.

im pretty certain i will be going the turbo route hence signing up here to find out what bits i need / already have :)

It looks like a montego/maestro turbo one which is is handy if your going to fit an intercooler. *wink*

right, time for an update as there have been some big changes.

first off, nitrous gone, sold it to a nice little boy racer and made a profit so why not.

engine, ever so slightly broken, fitted mega jolt, forgot to remove dizzy drive shaft, bits of shaft and cam gear teeth all over the place and took a trip round the gearbox for good measure.

decided to take this as an opportunity for a complete change, so:

Morspeed Trackday Engine 1380cc Turbo Kit
Morspeed Booster Super Squish 4 Head
Lightened con-rods
Wedged and bladed crank shaft
11 Stud Conversion
Straight Cut box with x pin diff

still trying to decide on which turbo setup to go for.

Still waiting for a few items but bits are turning up slowly, as well as:

Carbon Arches:

Revotec hoses (same as samco)

2 core comp rad

Halogen headlamps and indicator (i'll be enquiring where the other indicator has gone tomorrow!)

my fave 2 items:

KAD quickshift

Molybdenum 4 cross pin diff

Straight cut input gear

Straight cut primary gear

lots of gearboxy bits

lots of gaskets

and yesterday refurbed my heater so it looks like new

exhaust is a custom stainless jobbie, main pipe is off the center LCB system, and the box is a scorpion titanium bike can.

looks like a yammy R1 can. ive got the carbon one to go on mine but its not quite as light as you would think. although still reasonably light.would recomend a reasonable aftermarket bike exhaust as they will flow better and are lighter!

remember youll need a different fuel pump and reg to run a turbo if you go down that route (sorry if its already been mentioned)

nice build by the way!
