I commented on this on facebook, is there no way that you could get an intercooler with the ports both at the same end?

I searched for ages for such an intercooler but could not find anything off the shelf. There are some cheap chinese ones that are too large or some for Landies that are not really big enough. Forge offered me one from a VW but for £350 and a long wait.

We do intend to change the intercooler at some point but it will more likely be side mounted.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys.

Could you not tank off the N/S of the I/C and then have a split inlet / outlet on the O/S it would make for less pipe work.

If you see what i mean.

Robert makes a good point.

Twice the flow path length but at the expense of much higher pressure loss due to twice the velocity.

I've got pressure tappings and temperature sensors each side of the intercooler. Let's see if these cheap intercoolers are as bad as we are lead to believe first.

I guess if yo could get rid of that long feed pipe you could get a much taller cooler giving you back the area plus the fact it would be better cooled compared to just a pipe.

I'm no one to talk as my piping is miles long, but I was always led to believe less piping is better and your turbo location looks perfect for a short direct feed to the cooler if possible.

The long pipe should not be a problem as we have launch control, flat shift, traction control and anti-lag if we need it :)

The throttle might as well be a switch in an acceleration contest.

and the turbo in a trailer towed behind the car ...oh no , that would mean 2 more wheel sensors ..

It moves *Clapping*

Had a couple of major issues to overcome, dodgy starter and lack of clutch, but have managed to get it sorted.

Just need to add a handbrake system (no quadrants or guides :( ), make some tank straps and fit a harness.

The plan is to get it from one end of the strip to the other at MitP and we will be happy.

Could try RGS see if they have any time tomorrow?

I could try RGS but I want to stay with NMS for consistancy (and believable numbers).

I'm waiting for a call back to re-schedule.

Too many unknowns with the chassis to setup on the strip.

I was only suggesting using RGS's dyno as a tuning/mapping tool to get you on the strip. *smiley*

The DD dyno's may not measure actual transmission losses (they use 21.4% losses as a standard) but have an excellent reputation as a tuning tool.

To a degree I agree with Robert when using a precentage to calculate losses on a roller dyno, and I would ignore the percentage result and just uses a realistic average losses value of 21hp across the board for the Mini transmission. Its got to be closer to the real value than the percentage is!

if your setting up it doesnt matter for the moment if it measures 17 million bhp , you can still measure 17 million and one and know youv made a change for the better.

I agree, since the real purose of the dyno is as a tuning tool and changes can be quantified for better or worse.

Don't forget the det cans though!

I wondered this, do we know what the fault is at NMS? If it's just dodgy numbers it doesn't matter. Just need somewhere to set it up.

Shame Bedford autodrome haven't got one of there open pit lane days tomorrow :(

Got the call back from NMS, apparently they have had a bearing failure. It was scheduled for repair on Saturday, but it has got too bad and they are getting it sorted now.

Good news is that it should be sorted for Saturday and we can do it then :) They will confirm sometime tomorrow.
