Solid works is showing 1540 with this one. Although ive seen a few places where i can take some weight off without it being an issue down to 1350. This is the volume i would have taken away timed by 7.8g/cm2

Cheers Longy. Got a question for you. In comparison to other packages how easy is Solid works to use? It seems a doddle so far.

Another little play tonight.

1041g with less holes in the brake pedal.

Ill get hold of some steel soon and get on with this thing. Although ill need to source some pennies for some bits to be turned up. Will be interesting to see how accurate solid works is with weight issues.

Ive also neglected to put in a away of returning the pedals. I shall have to remidy this, but a simple system using a spring shouldnt be an issue.

Nice work, its great being able to test parts like this before there even made. It also seems most are returned via spring, this pic shows it clearly.

Should be a doddle really. small hole in the two pedal edges closest to the centre. and a small hole through the centre support and then two little springs.

Morning Sam,

Im not sure which version your using but if its Cosmos its one of the easiest packages to use. At the same time its also very basic. Do you import the model straight into cosmos, then its auto-meshes, you apply the loads and restraints and run the solve?

You can go into a lot of detail in the Strand 7. i find the stand alone packages are much better then add-ons. although at uni i used Ideas FEA add-on which i thinks NX now and that was just as good as strand 7. it just depends how accurate and how much depth you want to go into.

Most my work involves looking at strain levels in shafts so i tend to use a very fine localised mesh around the area im most interested usually using a Quad8 plate and then a Tet20 brick, these models take hours to solve but there are short cuts. To be honest FEA programs are like CAD programs just have a good.

Strand 7 have a demo version on their website and i think tutorials. There are always cough "c.r.a.c.k.e.d" copies around *wink*

Also i use this site a lot for models of standardish parts, bolts, nuts, clips etc could be of some use

http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/default.aspx

Also SKF keep a full model catalogue online, always good for bearing
