Thought I'd best show my face in here and post up my future turbo install...

At the minute I'm driving round with a 998 stage 1 in my retro'd 91 city..

It's a great little run about, just not a perticularly fast run about

That's where this comes in...

1275 turbo unit from a metty turbo. Brought from the bay with 'low oil pressure'. Always had the intention of having it rebuilt, but after a local firm let me down by not wanting to put there name on it for fear of it going wrong, I turned to you chaps on here and got in touch with Benross. Who shall be receiving the engine for work tomorow all being well. Hopefully returning with a fresh +.20 rebore, Omega 10cc pistons, new shells, oil pump etc. So I set about splitting the block etc....

So there you have it, I'm hoping to get the parts and engine built for when I have my christmas break from uni. Many thanks to the TM members I have delt with for parts etc up to date aswell, an thanks for the advice/help so far!

Thought I best update this really and stop being an idle shit...

Block, head and rods are up at Benross at the minute being rebuilt to the following spec -

Block-
+20 rebore to 1293,
omega 10cc cast pistons
Crank reground, refitted with new shells, thrusts, center mains strap
Duplex timing gear,
Kent 276 cam, new followers

Head -
28cc chambers, stellite hardend seats, 180lb double valve springs, new seals, ported an polished

While Steve's been cracking on with that I've been parts collecting...

Maniflow 2" center exit, turbo downpipe from them too. Minispares order came today -
High flow water pump, all new hoses, 70amp alternator, 2core rad with new cap, 74*Thermostat, Fuel pressure reg, few other bits like new plugs, leads and dizzy cap in there too.

Sorted a few bits with the use of ebay over the past week, 3/8" copper fuel line (when wall thickness is taken out it comes out at 8.1mmID) 10mm fuel injection rubber hose, MPI tank and pump

Just need to sort out a few more bits, get my am and get it to Steve then it should all be about ready to get it built and fitted!

276 cam an interesting choice, I think it may struggle with the amount of overlap, but only one way to know for sure.

The 276 isn't going in anymore, it never arrived from the seller an I just got fed up with it holding up the build. Steve (Benross) has brought me a new 266 to go in thou.

Been to visit my engine builder tonight to get some pictures/have a chat and see how the builds going!

Block and crank back from machining, 10 thou removed all journals, Block CNC bored and honed, center cap machined off ready to accept center mains strap

Biiig pile of parts to go back on

I forgot to grab some pictures of my new pistons, but you'll have to believe my there is some new Omega +20 10cc pistons going back in, New Vandervell shells, thrusts, Center mains strap, lightened duplex timing setup, new turbo oil pump, BK450 headgasket and all new payen gaskets, new billet Kent 266MD cam, 180lb double valve springs, new cam followers, new core plugs etc, few other bits and bobs which I forget about to be honest... All the oilway plugs have been removed for cleaning, tapped then fitted with new plugs.

My other minispares bits..

All the hoses etc are still in the box bagged up, just to lazy to unpack them..

Just about to make a start on the mini today, nothing major so it can be shoved out the way for when my dads camper comes back from paint. But it should be a good start for the build!

I pulled the subframe and engine out tonight. Plan is to strip the subframe, repaint it all again then rebuild engine-less so I can roll the car about. While I'm waiting for the engine back I'll be fitting the bulkheadbox, laying the new fuel lines, fiting all the bits and pieces like the fuel reg and new tank etc. Need to pul the dash and what not out sometime soon too!

Welded in my bulkhead box today ready for me to clean up and paint before christmas so it can harden properly over christmas an boxing day.

Did the same as Nick with the actuator clearing piece, left some of the origional bulkhead in then bent that back to meet the nearside of the box. I'm well chuffed with how it turned out *happy*

My bleed valve turned up today too from Ebay, blooming nice bit of kit for 15 squid I recon!

After speaking to Steve last night on the phone, engine should hopefully be finished for me to collect on tuesday too. Fitted my Xpin diff yesterday too into the box,

Not alot else happened since my last post, just fetched a few other bits that I needed to finish the build.

Next update will either be a painted up bulkhead, or an engine *happy*

Something I wanted to ask while I'm here, anybody has any issues with seam sealer so close to the turbo? Just thinking of fire hazard really?

The car looks pretty tidy. Are you building the engine yourself?

Dressed the bulkhead yesterday too which is now in primer, just need to whip the subby out to give it it's finial coat of red!

Right then, just a few pictures I should have uploaded sooner..

One 1293 engine, an worked Benross mild spec head. Not very exciting as far as engine pictures go but it was the only one I took before covering it back up to keep it clean and dust free

Bulkhead comming along nicely, was painted tonight, aswell as the inner wings so that should b done and dusted now *happy*

Had a MASSIVE set back when I realised my gearbox was as good as a paper weight (Nob head had the box sandblasted, an I assumed nobody is daft enough to have the box blasted with the gearset, bearings, everything still in place but alas, I was wrong, aswell as several teeth missing an a bollocksed mains bearing), so I set about looking for a replacement..

Chemically cleaned casing, hardened layshafts, cooper S CR gearset, 18 tooth top gear, Center Pick Up, 3.1 Diff should be better then the 3.2 in the turbo box, brand new baulk rings, gaskets, bearings, shafts throughout, new selector forks, rebuilt standard diff with hardened diff pin (No use to me as I'm using my X pin diff in this again, an the speedo drive should match up spot on *happy*

Went to fetch it earlier and it's the *man danglies* *happy*

The pic's are from ebay, but it's this box...

Aweeesome.
