Hi,
This is the outline of my project, I say outline 'cause it's changed several times already!
To begin with....
Engine: Standard 1275Mpi, out of 2000 Cooper Sport. Complete straight out of the car, 29K miles.

Clutch: Verto Turbo with AP race/rally plate, this requires you to move the reluctor wheel in the back of the flywheel, as the clutch covers are 25degrees different! *surprised*

Box: MPi with standard drops + uprated bearings, 4pin diff

Turbo: T2 on Mirage manifold, 10psi boost. Oil return, who knows where?

Management System: Use Rover ECU for as much fuel as it will give me. Use a Mega something for ignition and 'boost' fueling.

I'm fairly confident the Rover ignition map will be of no use for the turbo, so I won't use it!

I'm going to fit two extra injectors above the throttle body, for the extra fuel required.
What I'm hoping to find out is, which mega will do the job, how to trigger it and some other minor problems I haven't found yet.

Looking ahead, upgrade to 1380. That means no flywheel trigger, so I 've got to get the MS to run the lot, while retaining my MPi type economy. Bearing in mind the MPi needs a 36-4 trigger pattern!
Or somehow run 2 sets of teeth and sensors on the end of the crank pulley! *surprised*
Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Now that we have established that the MPi wheel is a 36-4 pattern, I have to say that there is no current MS version that will handle that. Like I said in another thread the upcoming MS2 code will handle that but I can't say when it will be ready yet.

If you want to handle both extra fuel and ignition, I still think that MS1/extra is your best bet. You'll need to have another crank trigger that can be read by MS1/extra which can be a 36-1 wheel. And if you add a cam trigger you could even go for a COP (coil-on-plug) ignition setup because the code supports 4 ignition outputs. You need to go to the MS1/extra site to look at all the possibilities: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/

Hi,
Jean, Thats amazing, you can even use it to find out if you've got a cylinder down on compression!
It's got all the toys I wanted too....
Shift light
Launch control
Traction control
Boost control
Knock control
Dual maps, tied into the boost control would give me switchable boost
Cheers,
Gavin :)

You have to be careful about what's actually available for you. If you're not fully controlling fuelling with MS, you are limited for certain options.

And you don't need dual table for switchable boost. With a single table covering your highest boost, you also cover your low boost situation. For the ECU, the limitation in boost is not different if it comes from the throttle plate or from a waste gate. It is just a certain pressure in the manifold that means it needs to inject a certain amount of fuel. The only reason to use 2 table in your case would be if the Rover ECU reacts differently when you switch boost but I don't see why it would.

One thing I forgot to add is that if you do add a 36-1 wheel, you can use either MS1/extra or MS2 to control additional fuel and ignition with the help of an EDIS module. However, in that case, you can't have ignition cut for rev control.

By the way, this is my 100th post!!!

Hi,
Jean, Congrats on your 100th post :)
I was thinking if I use the MS to control the boost, I would need 2 different boost control settings for say 5 psi or 10psi switchable boost?

Do I have to use EDIS or will MS run a coilpack and 2 injectors directly?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

You don't have to use EDIS. MS will run a coilpack but it will require a small modification to do so. It's all explained on the MS1/extra site.

I was just mentioning that this is another option but I would recommend using direct coil control for the ability to do spark-cut.
