hello all

ive been turning my attentions to fitting one of dans jet holders

however im having a bit of a problem getting another set of rivets for it.

Ive found some suitable brass nuts and bolts, will these be ok if tightened up and thread lock put on them

or are rivets the only answer?

Hi Nic,
According to this post
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=311 you use the rivets to line it up and then tack weld it together! *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

ok then, im feeling a little slow when it comes to this, so:

(ignore that long bolt)

When i refit the jet holder (b) do i need parts A and C? presumably ill need A to keep the correct height

and where does this washer go? is it in place of C if i get rid of it?

Ive put the middle piece on the hob before and that is bi-metallic too, i cut/filed one out of stainless to the same shape.

Pic courtesy of mw

And then used two 1mm thick washers under the screw to make up for the other 2 bi-met pieces that are removed. Also used rivets to line up then welded made up jet holder to bracket.

Hi,
Has anyone got the original pictures from that link I posted, as that would restore the very useful FAQ. If we hosted them here, they couldn't disappear. As someone once said it's useless without pics!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

next question:

ok then, so if i do the holder like t3tone has, and then stick 2x 1mm washers under it in the area arrowed.

however it appears this area needs movement to allow for an adjustment screw. will fitting the washers under here stop the pivot required?

I thought the idea of using 2 packing washers was so you could use Dan's cut plate between them, and do without the two either side of it, as shown in Nic's picture above?
As it is arranged above is the same dimensionally as the standard setup. Losing the two "outer" plates would mean the jet holder would be higher in the carb, hence the washers needed to pack it back to the standard position.

Hi,
From reading the old post, I'd agree too. You use the washers to replace the two plates either side of the new piece you've made.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

One thing I don't get is:
Dave mentions that you need to fit two washers under the jet, to tak out any slop. As you remove one small piece of steel on each side of the new peice of steel jet holder. Wouldn't it be better to fit one washer UNDER the entire holder, and one under the spring?

If not, the jet is moved 0,8mm one way. I guess this can easily be adjusted afterwards, but wouldn't it be easier to fit one on each side like this:

this is what i ended up coming up with:

i measured the thickness of the orginal and compared it to the new jet holder (which was slightly thicker than the old middle bit)

i then new that for it to be the same total height i needed to have something 0.7mm on either side, so a hunt around the garage and i found some metal and using hammers, chisels, and a pick axe i cut it to shape.

Then for the rivets, i put in the brass bolts i had, trimmed them down a lttle, but so they were still above the surface and gave them a good hitting with a hammer, to flatten then, and roberts your mothers brother-1x unimetallic jet holder

I've now fitted the new steel strip directly to the 90 degree bit with no spacer in between. I cannot see that this does any harm if you compensate by adjusting the mixture a bit richer.

The think about fitting two washers, I've put these directly under the spring now whioch should work. Dave mentions that there has got to be two washers or else the jet will move up and down. Is this only because the spring isn't long enough or strong enough? On my carb there was VERY little slop when fitted without washers.

I've got some pictures of it all, but the computer wont let me download them..

Looks fine Nic.

I too used both washers between spring and fabricated holder. The washers are need to make up for the 2 bi met plates that are removed so the spring regains the same clamping pressure.

I ended up with this:

As previously mentioned, this is a bit lower than the original, so I ended up with having to richen the mixture to make it run properly.

are these still available? I'm getting all sorts of strange running probelms esp when its cold. I was thinking this may be the problem changing my mixture in the cold? is the new strip made out of stainless?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Hi,
IIRC this is to do with hot restarts.
I see you've got a supercharger, my guess is your carb is icing up. There's a post somewhere (sure it's on here) about someone who made a heating block to solve this problem?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Not really hot restarts, these are to stop the carb leaning mixture off if fuel temp gets hot.

does the replacement strip have to be petrol resistant? what material do you use or do you coat it before use?
