I'm just wondering what you guys are doing as far as a fuel pump is concerned.
My current fuel pump is the low pressure, cam-driven type that won't work so well on an EFI setup. I've been reading about swirl pots or anti-surge tanks and most of the examples have in-tank or near tank pumps to feed the swirl pot, and a high pressure pump in the pot.
Given the already limited space under the hood(not to mention the elevate temps), putting a swirl pot in there seems less than desirable. Fitting an electric low pressure(since I don't have one), then an electric high pressure pump seems, on the surface anyway, unnecessary. Anyone else have any ideas?
Given the shape of our tanks(relatively tall, and narrow), is a surge tank even necessary?
If nothing else, I suppose a brand new fuel cell would work very well.

This is the set up i'm going to use.

1. Is the main tank from there fuel will pass through a big hi flow filter (2) whit help from a low pressure fuelpump (3) and on to the swirlpot (4). From the outlet of the swirlpot the high pressure fuelpump (5) is mounted, then into the high pressure filter (6). In the end of the fuelrail a fuelpressure regulator is mounted (7). The outlet of the regulator routes back to the swirlpots return. 8 is a carburetor pressure regulator that then gets back inte to the main tanks return.

1. Tank from Saab 96 V4
3. Red Top fuelpump
5. Bosch fuelpump from Saab 9-3T (200L/ 5bar @ 12V)
7. Regulator from Saab 9-5T 2.8 bar
8. Regulator from weber 0.3 bar

Couldnt it be simpler just to use an mpi tank and pump from a 'yard?

I donated, but somehow didn't get the label! :(

I believe that Minisport still sells new injection tanks, though find out from them if they are MPi. That way you are not trying to ship a tank with petrol fumes in it. Given the current security situation in the US jimmy, I don't think a metal box that stinks of petrol has much chance of making it through customs some how :):):)

Just replicate the metty turbo set up, roller vane bosch pump, available of loads of import cars - volvos etc, and add a return in the tank.

Don't forget to wire the pump through a relay and inertia switch so if you do have an accident, (hope not), then you don't have a 40 psi fuel leak and a BBQ. The wiring instructions for this are in the FAQ/Knowledge sections.

I have also wired my ignition controller through this to kill the motor so it doesn't lean out if the inertia switch trips on full throttle. At least then I should be able to salvage the engine :)

Hi,
You could build a swirl pot into the mini tank. What some one said to me was you need a swirl pot, because you don't have a float chamber. When you are low on fuel and fly around a bend, all the fuel goes up the side of the tank and no supply to the pump *wink* Hence swirl pot = float chamber!
Cheers,
Gavin. :)

I think it is because the fuel return on inj is high and on a low tank you will get air in the fuel suppy back to the engine because the fuel is swirling in the bottom of the tank *smiley**smiley*

Would a pump from an Mpi Mini put out enough fuel for a turbocharged injected mini?

SC components recommends a Mpi pump for their injected 7 port but surely a turbo would demand much higher peak volumes of fuel.
