Does the megasquirt have an out put for a rev counter as with no distributor the standard one wont work (as it uses coil pulses is this right) or am i lost off *indifferent*

Yes and no.

If you use the EDIS then there is an output on that for a rev counter. However, its a bit hit and miss if it works. Works fine on my bros car and on the TT but my mini it only semi works (i.e. only after 2000rpm, unless you have the fan on or the brake pedal pressed).

A mate of ours had his revcounter re-calibrated to work on just one side of the coilpack as it didnt like the EIDIS output.

You can combine the two coil pulses via 2 diodes to drive high voltage kick tacho's. Thats how mine works.

thanks for that ive just found that diagram haven't got my squirt yet hoping to recieve in the next couple of days so i can fit it over christmas
