Hi everyone, I have recently finish my mini and the engine is running way to hot. It is getting all the way to the red on the gauge. I had a minispares super 2core rad side mount rad. I have changes the thermostat and tried the blanking sleeve yet still getting hot.

Any suggestions on what to check and try would be really appreciated,
I'm suppose to he driving ot to my wedding on Monday.

Thanks in advance

If you've changes anything might be worth checking the gauge and sender are suited.

So this is a new build ? never run before ?

Does the thermostat work ? Is air bled from the system ?

Is the fan on correctly ?

Is your gauge correct ? check engine temp at the stat housing etc with an IR gun or thermal camera.

How fast does temp rise ?

Is water circulating in the system ? does top/bottom hose and rad show you water is moving, stat open etc etc

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Engine has just been rebuilt, its only done 1 drive around 14miles. Apart from this its only idled.
Sender unit is new, and I have tried the one off my dad's mini too, but still says to hot.
The water is circulating through the system and air is bled out.
The thermostat was working fine before i changed it to the blanking sleeve.
The water temp in the rad gets to boiling point and steams out the overflow.
The fan is on the correct way and I have installed an electric fan on the inner wing
I had the megajolt mapped on a rolling road. In going to see what the advance is set at. If if set too advanced could that be the issue?
The engine doesn't head to really fast on idle but as soon as you start to give it some revs it just has a steady creep up.

Fit a proper thermostat in it, and ensure it works at a sensible temperature. ie don't guess, test it.

So top and bottom hoses are cold/warm as and when they should be ?

Too much retard would see an engine run very hot, not too much advance.
Too lean would see an engine run hotter.

Does the heater blow hot air ?
