If you’re handy, you could modify any take to fit an in-tank pump. Just a case of cutting holes and extending the pump hanger.

I modified a tank for a member on here useing Swage Lock fittings, with 3/8 feed and return lines. Used an external pump type unknown return was plumbed in next to the feed in the bottom of the tank and extended to the top outboard corner. Edited by Mr Joshua on 20th Nov, 2022. Own the day

I've silver soldered 3/8" pipe into a tank in the past for flow and return. If I was to do it again I'd favour using AN6 weld on bosses.

If you’re considering welding your fuel tank with tig/Mig, always purge the tank with nitrogen! Safety first! |

All the tanks I have modified I have had to cut a section out the top of the tank to get the work done then mig welded the cut out piece back in. I filled the tank with water when I cut into it, by the time it came to close it back up The tank was totally purged of any combustable substances so didn't require back purging.

clean/flush with detergent as much as possible, and before any cutting/welding, as above, fill with water and retain as much water as you can during the process.

Why put it in the tank when you don't need to?

Why put it in the tank when you don't need to? I used an external pump.. my fuel pump was in the standard location on the rear subframe I put a fitting in the top of the tank for the return. I didn't even run a new fuel line, I put the regulator next to the fuel pump and returned straight out of it back up to the tank. People say "but but you can't do that!", can so.. About 99% of people run an external pump, and you can do many things, some are better and more efficient than others. But using the standard small hose to supply any EFI pump, is wholly inadequate and will be causing cavitation at any EFI pump, and it will likely be squealing it's brains out gasping for fuel. Hence the tank does need modified with a suitable outlet, ideally appropriately filtered, and of course a return 9.85 @ 145mph
