So the forum seems quite quiet these days, thought I would make a thread for the engine build I'm working on.

I’d forget using mild steel for the manifold it won’t last long at all.

Hi Phil, I only have a MIG, which is the only reason I was thinking of sticking to mild steel.

To weld stainless with your mig you want some stainless MIG wire and use helium and argon for the gas. Edited by DILLIGAF on 23rd Feb, 2021. |

Any idea what ID tube would be best suited to my needs? I've just used 1.5" O/D x 16swg, you could probably get away with 1.375" if you want smaller, I used 12mm for my flanges, and miged it all up. Fully weld the tube joints before welding flanges on, and you will minimise distortion. I have 1.75" for the downpipe. |

Thanks Jd24-7 looks good! I was looking at thick wall tube bends, probably will make a test manifold using an old LCB manifold that i'm sure won't last that long but will prove it works :) |
