So, in short I'm playing with some small bore stuff as a little side project while I'm running my Twink engine in.
I was given a 1098 short engine by a friend, it appears to have been stored outside for a number of years.
At first glance I wrote the crank off as being scrap due to the level of corrosion but after mounting it on the lathe and lightly polishing the journals with some WD40 and some wet and dry Im now not so sure?
The big end journals measure as standard with minimal pitting, the outer mains however despite being the top end of standard tolerance have suffered. I think that a .020" or .040" grind would sort the journals but it's the pitting on the flywheel taper and primary gear end that I'm unsure over.

Any thoughts / advice welcome.

Shane.

If you absolutely had to use it you'd risk it. But otherwise I would find another.

I did feel this would be the consensus, I haven’t committed to the CC of the build yet so not that fussed if it’s scrap.
Thanks for the reply’s.
Can I interest anyone in a rather fetching paper weight?
