I have gone down the RTS route at much expense. My engine is nearly complete but the builder (who made up the clutch) is now saying there are issues getting free play. There is no more travel on the adjuster nut on the wok and he says it is missing out about the thickness of one spring plate. I have used 2 performance clutch covers C AEG 485 Would this have to do with the spacer length?? Does anyone know what length they should be using these covers? He wants to alter or make a new cup that sits under the release bearing. Not keen as I dont recall seeing this done by anyone on any of the RTS posts. Any help appreciated.

The spacers should be the thickness of the originals plus the thickness of the new spring.
There is no definitive thickness as the plates do vary slightly and measuring is required to ascertain correct spacer length.
By free play I’m assuming he means the release bearing mechanism is sat touching the release “top hat” and doesn’t “float”?
If this is the case it’s the same issue I had when I first used an AP uprated and a turbo spring.
I had to machine material off of the fly wheel posts in order to get the spring to sit flatter (I believe this has been mentioned in some of the RTS build threads).
Sufficient clearance is needed between the “top hat” and the release bearing because when the friction plate wears the “tophat” to bearing clearance reduces.
Insufficient clearance would mean the clutch not fully disengaging and ultimately would allow slip.
There are people on here that have built numerous RTS units and may be able to offer better advice than I can.
