I've got a electric sender to fit. Where are people usually placing them?
I know it's a fairly imple question. I'm going to start monitoring them as a have got rid of the oil cooler. Didn't see the need for it as mainly used on the drag strip.
Thanks Ron

I tapped mine into the end of the speedo housing. Get reliable reading there, as I chucked a thermometer down the dipstick to check!

Don’t stick where it will get a lot of airflow!

Had one in the sump plug and it was useless.

I put mine in the turbo oil feed line. Adapted a multi-tee thingy so that the tip of the sensor just sat in the flow.

not to say mine has been a success but mine is right before oil goes into the block where the main galley the lower port on the right where the filter usually bolts

i think it would be better to be down in the sump or drilled/taped into the suction galley in the box around back
ie the blank steel plate that backs the pick up tube to get the maxim oil temp
after all we want to know if we are over/under heating the oil and cooking off the water fuel ect but also not breaking the oil down from to much heat

how much the oil temp changes from location to location i dont know but given the volume of oil the should be flowing id guess its not a lot of difference?

what do most oil pumps flow a good few liters per 1000rpm ? whats that 7 odd liters at low rpm and 5 odd at high rpm for a stock pump that's moving some oil so id guess the temp difference would be what a few deg different from hottest point to coldest?
Evan over the cooler id say its a few deg diff due to the flow rate

a write up on oil supply from a quick google

Thanks for the suggestions. I just want some idea of the temperature not 100 percent accuracy. I think I will go with Paul's idea of tapping into the oil feed pipe. My engine is in and built so I don't want to risk getting any Swarf in the engine/box. Ron

I had mine in the sump plug, the first adapter I used, from minisport, sent let the oil get at the sensor bulb and it hardly read anything. I changed to the minispares adaptor and it was fine, oil usually mirrored water temp. I've now gone to the dsn filter head with temp takeoff because the other was really inconvenient for changing oil, and of course no magnetic sump plug
