Photobucket now wanting to charge for hosting images for a lot of us on this forum, and any other forum that uses the "img" tag (for those who haven't noticed yet).

I see it has been mentioned a few times on other posts, mainly in the "show us yours" section so I thought it might be a good idea to start a separate thread to keep all the comments in one place and not sidetrack the build threads.

Use the TM uploader for anything TM related..

The reason I've never (or rarely) done this in the past is because I've always assumed that occupies a lot of space on the TM server, presumably a lot more than plain text and I've assumed, maybe wrongly, that would increase server costs.

Perhaps everyone could list their preferred alternatives (I know some have in other threads) and keep it all in one place.

Although some of the alternatives may start to do the same if there isn't a massive anti-photobucket reaction.

BTW, for the moment, if you right click on the new P500 image and then select "copy image address" then paste it into a blank URL address bar (ie, a new window or tab in your browser) you will then see the real image on the photobucket site. Not sure how long that will last before they block that loophole.

Most Internet Service Providers give you free webspace where you can ftp your photos to.

That's what I use. Alright until you change ISP!

Is Flickr the same as photobucket? So they could stop 3rd party hosting and charge for it as well?

Flickr could possibly stop it too but as it's more of a 'social networking' kind of thing I don't think they ever would. Photobucket is just a shit hosting site out to make money off bandwidth limits and holding people to ransom. Stopped using it in about 2006!

Flickr is the way I think.

I've used Flickr for years. It's owned by yahoo so a different business model to pb.

From memory you get 1tb per month and it's for of a social site.

I can't see any of my old pictures in my account, but they remain visible in my threads - some for 10 years or so.

if you can access your photobucket ( I can) download your whole album now before it gets locked out. Likely Ill just start hosting my own as I pay for a webserver anyways. Photobuckets been so full of ads lately its completely unuseable.

It's funny you mention about Photobucket, as I've paid for it for the last 5 years or so, but the time has come to move away from it for me too. There android app is rubbish, and there website isn't much better, plus sites like Flickr offer a better free service than PB seem to.

I set up a Flickr account last week and have been migrating all my photos across from my PB account and across my various storage mediums, and really like it so far. The app seems a lot better than the PB one, and the website seems to be geared more towards photo storage and editing which is fine for what I want.

Going to cancel my PB subscription once all the photos are moved over, but I have quite few albums to get through!

I lost a lot of photos when I changed ISP, so I started using photobucket over twenty years ago.

It's not the fact I need to download copies of all those pics, it's all the broken links that are going to be broken in all of my and other really interesting build threads .

Switched to Google photos last year for new images. They store the image in its original size. If you need to link to a hi-res image, you can edit the URL to reduce it any size or original size.

Seems the clever guys over on TMF have somehow managed to get a workaround the photobucket kerfuffle, all the build threads on there have pinged back into life, mine included.

Just seen this on another forum but not tried it myself. Allows you to see any photobucket pictures as normal.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/c...her-info-dialog

Install and make sure it is enabled.

Once installed, Click on settings, then extensions

In 'custom stylesheet and Script' click options and add the below script in the javascript box then hit the 'update extensions' button

$(document).ready(function () {
$('img').each(function () {
var img = $(this);
var imgsrc = img.attr('src');
if (imgsrc.indexOf("photobucket.com") !== -1) {
img.attr("src", imgsrc + "~original");
}
});
});
