After many years i finally have a turbo mini (one i get it started). Its a 1972 Morris mini 1000, i got it as a long term investment and promised the wife i wouldn't modify it. Its been off the road now for 18 months, target is to get it on the road for London to Brighton this year. MOT is booked in for the 13th May so all hand to the deck at the moment. Im not after quick quarter mile times just want to make the car more fun and driveable.

So, its a bogo 998, with Turbo Phil 12G295, X-pin diff, Piper BP255 cam, GT15, fusion fabrication manifold and down pipe, Megajolt.

I need some help.

With Roberts help we managed to get it running last weekend. However we had to use BP6ES plugs because the spark was very weak with BPR6ES plugs. Since then ive changed the oil and filter and tried BPR6ES plug again, but its now not firing. I had to jump the mini of my van as the battery was flat. Ive checked the resistance of the HT leads and im getting between 14-16kohms, which is high with resistance plugs.
Any suggestions?

Loving the look of That, pretty much the engine spec I've decided to go with now.
Need to start hoarding the parts as they pop up

Good looking mini, why don't you try B6es.
They seem up to the job

I use bp5es plugs in my 998. It doesn't run on anything else.

So can i use the HT leads i currently have which are 14-16kohms with non-resistant plugs like BP6ES or BP5ES?

I have now shortened the HT leads and im still getting a weak spark, barely visible when cranking. Ive checked the voltage at the coil pack connector which is 12.6V at static and drops to 10.2V when cranking.
The battery was flat, so its been on charge. Could the fact that the battery was flat be a contributing factor? Im also going to try a new coil pack as well.

Ive now put new HT leads and plugs on. I manage to get it idling, but the revs were hunting up and down and as soon as i gave it any throttle it died. Now it fires for a few seconds and then dies. Any ideas?

Hunting is usually an air leak. I'm surpriseed that the ECU even worked at 10 V, so deffo a contributing factor.

I use the same leads and coil pack as you and never had an issue with any plug I've tried.

The part throttle lean off pipe looks weedy, check it's not got a leak.

As an aside - maybe it's the picture, but it looks like your dump valve signal is connected to the plenum nipple?

Check the crank sensor air gap is correct. Get it as close to the teeth as you can without any rubbing.....

I don't think that you ever wanted it to get it too close???
On the same topic though - I've found out the hard way that some ECUs are sensitive to polarity of crank signal? Others don't seem to care.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Purely out of interest do you have some plugs with resistors to try?
I was helping a friend on a landrover with mega squirt which had a horrible stutter/misfire low down.
He changed the plugs to ones with resistors fitted and all was solved.

They must have been causing interference, the only diagnosis that I could describe is it sounded like someone was hitting the engine with a spoon when it happened.

Cheers Nic just tried BPr6Es plugs and couldn't even get it started. On the bp6es plugs I can get it idling but the second I give it any throttle it's dying
