I ran the Aprilia version of the same stat. The operating temperature is quite cold 78 degrees C and I think They were designed to be used in the bottom hose off the rad on the bikes for that reason.

Some old renaults had a stat that was just shoved up inside the hose
9.85 @ 145mph
