Hi,

If anyone can help, I am after a 12g295 head to go on my 998 mini van.
As long as it's not been butchered too much I would be very interested.

Thanks,

Roy B

How much are these things worth now?
There's a couple on eBay for silly money.

I know someone with one. But would have to ask if he's willing to sell it.

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Holy crap you're not wrong.. for that price it's probably cheaper to start with a 12G202/206 or even a CAM4810 and speak to one of the head wizards on here to work their magic. Benross did a lovely job of my 295 head.

Excuse my ignorance on things small bore, but what is so special about the 12G295 ?

I have one I inherited years ago, totally un-molested as far as I can see, and I just put it to one side in case I ever did a small bore project but the only obvious difference is the double valve springs it has.

What else am I missing that makes these so special ?

I may consider selling as I doubt I'll ever get to use it but would like to know what I'm missing.....

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Lol! It was benross that told me to go out and find one, but one that hasn't had any work or very little which is a challenge to find.
As far as I know these heads were used on various 998's and 1098's including the Cooper. They come with slightly bigger valves. But if you do decide to sell it rod I will give it a good home and benross will bring it back to life.
Thanks for the offer Adam with your head, I will have a word with benross to see if it's one that we can use but it may of been skimmed too much for what spec we are after. Cheers.

It's from a 998 cooper engine. The chambers are 28cc ish because the pistons used in this were 'domed'. The chamber is much closer in design to the 12G940 when compared with other 998 heads. Much nicer head. But most have been heavily skimmed to get a sensible C/R when using flat tops.

As a side note the 12G206 is pretty much identical.

The 202 castings can be bought for peanuts compared to the 295, and though it takes more work, can be made into a decent head.
The trouble with the 295's is finding a decent one. It's not just that most of them have been skimmed, often to death due to the 28.3cc standard chamber volume, but that the valve seats are very narrow and wear horribly. 99.9% of the time these heads are absolutely knackered, so by the time you've factored in new guides, valves, springs and fitting unleaded inserts they're not a cheap head especially if you're looking at port and chamber work to.
The last one I modified I had to use the 33.3mm inlets from the 1275 just to be able to cut a decent clean valve seat.

Plus I gained more power from using a 940. Phil did both of my heads 295 and the the 940.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Northamptonshire.

Sorry to Hi jack the thread

I just got my 295 out ready for the turbo conversation and waiting a quote for the rebuild form a local machine shop but it's the valves I'm stuck with. Is it best to use 1275 ones or be bent over and buy the proper size ones?
