Way back in May 11 a lad off here bought my old x pin diff.
Being the guy I am I told him that as he was local if he fetched his box id help him fit it, and a centre oil pipe.
Job going swimmingly but didn't have the right shims or gasket to hand.
Seemed a great lad so I lent him a pair of digital calipers so he could finish the job at home, on the proviso he got them back to me when done.

Fast forward a few months and chased them up, nothing.

Today came home to a surprise parcel. Yes you guessed it my long lost calipers (with a flat battery) returned after 6-1/2 years!

I guess I can't really call him a rat bastard because I do have them back? Finally.

Name shall remain nameless, but I no longer lend anyone anything.

Indeed. It should have been accompanied by a gift card and a "sorry I fucked up note" at least.
Oh well; you got them back...

The problem I find is even loaning them to close friends and relatives, you forget who, where and when you lent them.

In work we have a book where everything loaned is written down.

To be fair I'm reluctant to borrow tools as I'm crap at giving them back!

I've got half of Andy's mini tools in my garage lol

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Lol!

Agreed i try not to lend out simply because of the cost if it gets lost or damaged . Leant someone an expensive piece of kit from work and it came back damaged. Dont think he realised how expensive it was when he was hit with the bill to replace it

This get better a few years ago my dad lent a big double extender step ladder to his not so bright brother, come to collect them a few weeks later and thought they look short, so asked him about it and his reply was yes I had to cut the bottom 3 rungs off to get them in my Hall way but dobt panic I've got the bit I cut off!
It's amazing how some people think!

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.
