I've just got a proper decent sized parts washer, but I'm unsure what fluid to use on it. I've always just washed blocks/heads etc off with parrafin in in a big box. What do folk recommend to use in the parts washer ?

Phil.

I've always wanged some paraffin in mine.
At work we use some proper fluid for it, but each time I open it there is a monsterous furry ecosystem that has developed

I've heard a lot of people using swarfega jizer, not cheap but water soluble so it can easily be rinsed off

As above a good water soluble engine de-greaser is best, albeit not cheap.

Means cleaning is just literally hosing stuff off afterwards.

I can imagine diesel or paraffin type stuff being a total stinking mess !

I use paraffin and rinse parts in cellulose thinners, which then is added to the tank as well.

We use Jizer now. My only gripe with it is that it's a little viscous but otherwise seems fine. It will air dry if left for a while which is good for stuff you don't want to rust!

I'm using paraffin but to be honest, would prefer a water based cleaner such as Jizzer

If you can get hold of 'safety clean' it's very good. 👍

Water based for me too.
It became mandatory in my field of heavy engineering decades ago and they really are just as good as petroleum based products (although slightly more expensive) but they won't destroy my skin (with or without latex gloves) nor burn my garage/workshop down.
There are a lot of very good ones without going for the big brand names.

Just be careful of buying cheap 30quid drums off ebay. They say the stuff is suitable for parts washers but they lie. Its more like a big bottle of fairy liquid lol. Good for using diluted in the pressure washer but not neat in a parts washer.

We have one of those warm water based safety clean ones at work. Seems to work very well and better on skin and environment.

i built a holding tank with a heating element set for 55c on a thermostat
i use diesel in it works grate circulation pump and filter so no crud get put back on the parts ur trying to wash
the tub is basically dry and simply drains to the holding tank below but can be pluged to hold liquid for soaking

i had some water based stuff must have been some chepo stuff cos it didnt work for crap at full consecration let alone reduced down.. never tryed the jizz stuff probaly worth it as diesel can be hard on the skin and nose holes....
