With London to Brighton just over a week away my turbo has gone and needs a rebuild to stop it passing oil through the seals. This won't be back in time to do the run. Can I remove the turbo and fit a standard carb and lab manifold to get it going again? Would it run as a low compression engine ok without the turbo bits? Compression ratio I'm using is 8.5:1.

It will work. It may feel a bit flat due to the low compression, but it will still be driveable.

yep, infact you van leave the same carb on there, I seem to remember somone swapping off the exhaust and turbo, and just whacking a filter on the turbo side of the intercooler. On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:

Ok. Thanks for replies. I had a set of twin hs4 on the car before I turboed it. Would they take some of the flatness away over a hif44. I have both but want to make it as driveable as possible while my turbo is away |

I wouldn't bother with the twins they won't make it any better. Just stick an exhaust manifold on it and a filter on the intercooler like Joe says for now. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I would imagin theres been engine changes since the twins were on ( lower CR, different cam) so it will probably run like crap on them,
