I know there's a few threads on this, but none are recent enough.

The latest cnc machined ones from MS are supposed to be very good.

Minispares say to use their CNC baulk rings with their gear sets. If I were using a standard gear set then I'd use good used ones. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Minispares/Keith Calver used to say use our competition baulk rings, 10x better than the Rover items, special this...special that...you'd be a fool to use anything else.

I always save a stack of the original ones out of any box I strip. No point throwing out 3rd and 4th gear ones with next to no wear. |

Minispares super duper ones, or good used ones. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:

Funny this has come up i have been using genuine rover ones and last year i got twenty for upcoming builds. Anyway when i started to use them there were four or five that were out of spec. i like to use them with .065 to .070 gap when on the cone of the gear. A couple were machined so much they were 0 gap and a couple had .090 or more. I have in my shop a five speed with a completely worn out second gear syncro and it was new and now has less than a thousand miles! it would grind into second on the first day he ran it. Check them when you install them. Aaron Racecar spelled backwards is Racecar |
