Turning my attention to preparing the block for the conversion, I was wondering if anyone had a diagram or list of thread sizes.

The Key one would be what thread size to go for for the rear water galleries that overhang the three head studs.

As for the rest of the waterways, and push rod holes I will probably just go for some allen head grub screws, probably metric as they seem readily available.

As far as re-drilling for the stud holes is concerned, there seem to have been various stories of wonky studs during home attempts. Is this a job best left to a machinist with a heavy duty pillar drill?

Cheers

I used a combination of 1/8" and 1/4" taper thread plugs in brass and iron

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Oh, and for the head studs a heave duty Bridgeport with an end mill rather than drill will get better results, but the threads can still scew depending on how the holes are tapped

As for drilling. Dont use an end mill.

Spot drill.
Small twist drill
Slot drill
twist drill to size.

A bridgeport is an not a bad tool to do it on. You can align it correctly and put in the relevent grid pattern more accutately.

Ideally you want to forget using a jacobs chuck and use collets.

For metric fans: I managed to use M8, M12 and M14 in brass and cast iron (old cam shaft interior).
Glued with green Loctite

You missed off thread milling after the twist drill. *happy*
