Iv just bought another mini. A van to restore, on the logbook it's down as a 1964 850 mini van but it's a 998 with rubber subframe mounts so it's a 1976 onwards van. I not sure if I should update log book or put an 850 in and restore to 64 spec. It will be having a new front end anyway as its rotten.

I didnt think the vans changed there design apart from the roof? Its not a clubby estate with van plates is it?

The vans and pickups changed with the saloons they just kept the side panels the same for the external hinges. So the changes like the rubber mounted subframe and exhaust tunnel from remote to rod type all happened at the same time as other minis

A mate had a 66 van that had been re-shelled with an old stock late model shell back in the early 80's, (assumed after the end of production) which had similar details to yours. It certainly explained the variations. Can't confirm with this one but nothing to say it hasn't happened here too

He had his fully restored by Mini Machine back in the day and the only real obvious signs were the single bolt front frame and the lack of roof vent. He had the floor changed to suit the earlier year

Sounds like its a ringer to me, someone has got hold of an early logbook and swapped it over to get free tax on a later van.
I'd be keeping fucking quiet about it if I were you, especially to the DVLA unless you want a Q plate.

I'm sure it won't be the only mini with dubious ID. I'd keep quiet about it and anyone asks you bought it like that and don't know the history (true).
