Hello I'm nick and I've just joined because even tho I don't have a mini this forum seems to be the most clued up when it comes to forced induction with a carb.

Hope you don't mind giving me some advice but I have a lotus 7 style kit car with a Toyota 16v 4age engine. Originally would of been in a mk1 mr2. It's currently running 137 bhp with 2 dellorto twin carbs. But I want more power so I'm looking at supercharging it with a rotrex charger. The plan is to use a su hif44 off of a metro turbo blow through style. I've already purchased one off of eBay. I'm looking at running around 180bhp to begin with then maybe 200plus later on once I've had a set of stronger Pistons fitted. What I would like to know is that if 1 of these carbs can flow enough air and fuel for 200bhp as I've been reading contradicting info on the Internet. Thanks any info would be much appreciated

firstly, welcome to TM Nick

As to your question, pretty much all the high powered 5-port A series cars with that sort of power on this site are still running the HIF44 carb.

Welcome, as Rob says a few have broken the 200hp mark with the HIF44.

Why dont you just stick with the dellorto if its already on a manifold. You just need the top hats to pressurise the carbs?

Was this engine not originally EFI?

I'd stick the TBs back on and blow through them. Way better than the SU will do.

There used to be plenty Maestro & Montego turbo's out there with over 200bhp through an SU.

But I agree, ditch the carb if at all possible.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Firstly thank you for the replays. Yes the engine would of originally Been injection. I bought the car as it is so I don't have any of the original engine parts to convert it back. It would cost quite a bit to buy a manifold. Injectors. Plus an ecu and all the mapping that would be needed. So thought the carb would be the cheaper option. Plus I kind of like the idea that there is less to go wrong. So do you guys think it would work or would it not be worth doing

It will be 1000% better on injection and an ECU, do it once do it right is my opinion.

I'd be looking at running the setup from a 4AGZE, supercharged from factory, much less headache
