Hi

I'm going to fit my windscreen washer bottle in to the boot.
Will the standard pump be enough to pump the water from the boot to the screen? Or will I need a mpi pump?

Also I have some spare copper pipe from doing the brake lines. Would this be ok to run under the car for the water? Just think it'll last longer than the rubber windscreen hose living under the car!?

Thanks
Josh

mine has one in the boot. standard pump works fine. the tube ( original) does not run under the car but trough the roof arial ( where the roofline sticks sit in and then down in the a pillar next to the window.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

I ran a standard pump and bottle for mine without issue. Unfortunately the headliner was already in so I can it through the car

That's good to hear. I'll use my pump and bottle then.
Think I'll run the copper pipe under the car and either clip it to the battery cable or P clip it along side it. Then as it goes up to the windcreen I'll just use the standard rubber hose.

Thanks
Josh

Is brake pipe going to be of an adequate bore size? Would have thought it's a bit on the small side

Silicone hose, through the roof - 15min job.

Remove back right window, pull back seals and lining just at the FR and BR corners, route hose.

I've pealed back my roof lining a few times - its pretty hard to put it back wrong.

I put a non-return valve in mine so it keeps the hose primed and you get instant squirt. It only cost £5 on eBay.

I think MPis ran a non-return valve so I thought I'd replicate that. I used one of those cheap eBay washer bottles with built in pump, it's a bit weak but works ok, with a better motor it would be great.

Isn't that an MOT failure? I've got a washer bottle in the but it hasn't been plumbed up for over six months now.. Should have taken it out for weight savings haha, there's still even the same fluid I put in there when it first went back on the road three years ago!

All done.
I used 8mm od copper pipe that I had spare in the barn and some silicone hose. soldered the wires from the engine bay and run them to the boot through the car (under the carpet).

I must admit in the 2 years I've owned the mini iv rarely used the windscreen washer. I end up emptying it each time i needed to take the engine out or work in thst area lol. Now its in the boot I can forget about it.

Seams im not the only one who rarely uses there windscreen washers... personally its cos the minis always cleaned before a show and cleaned of most crap before stored away so windscreen never gets that film of shite that i normally wash away on the daily.

As for the mot failure- Yes it is! But when my mot tester said "no washers Dave?" I said no too much weight (he rolled his eyes, he knows what im like) but the bottles behind ya on the floor, if ya really want me to go get some water and plug it in to prove it works i can... (i just got a shake of the head and another eye roll haha)

Squeezy bottle out the window will pass an MOT providing you have it to hand and can demonstrate that you can do it safely.

Having a good windscreen sealant helps keep mine clean to be honest, my wipers are absolutely horrific (when they weren't flying off my old wheel boxes) so I barely use them and the water just runs up and off the screen anyway, added with screen wash it would just smears everywhere haha.
