So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Difference between Mk1 and what?

There were differences throughout production of Mk1s themselves.

Hi

There are the changes that are clearly different, as mentioned above. But also loads of smaller differences many of which were not recorded by BMC.

It also depends what you compare it to.

front panel (mounted directly to subframe, also cut-outs for front brakes in front panel).

Inner wings, A-panel, A-post, assembly. Front toe board (directly mounted to subframe), upper front bulkhead (for fresh air feed to heater).

sills and floors (but assuming you aren't talking about a 59/60 mini).

Inner B-pillar, seat belt mounting points (changed heights even in the Mk1).

I have been told the rear side window is also different, as the windows are not interchangeable, so the rear quarter panel should be different too.

Rear seat bulkhead Mk3.5/4 onwards is different.

rear panel (most obviously).

Roof is not a different panel but was roller welded not spot welded in the Mk1's.

Roof drip rails.

Probably more. It's a crazy world the MK1 mini! lol

I should add I'm not one expert. I just have a `64 mini cooper, a `64 bitsa (that is the toy) and a `66 shell.

It's surprising the differences between these two cars. But most of the changes are for the hydrolastic suspension. Plus the upper seat belt change.

Roughly speaking pre september built cars have the full front skirt front panel. It's not 100% as cars build later do have the full skirt and some don't. But this is likely due to panels being used that were to hand.

Floor is easier the "normal" Mk1 floor that M-machine do is good. They even have the tunnel too. The outer sills should be the four flute type not the six flute type.

Hope that helps.

No worries.

If you want them authentic ask for them to come with rust lol.

Heard tales of bare shells left outside before painting! Lol

I guess you've made some progress on your car then. Can t wait for an update.

Well NIC you have a point 🤘😀🤘

Nathan "progress " not sure what you mean by progress lol, the shell still looks as it did before, but looks like the list of panels are getting longer.. I have been working hard on lots of little lightweight bits here and there, saving lots as the days go on..

Dave, well you will have to wait and see what's going to happen, but it's one of them costing things, as when it was last bodged I me restored, 80% of mk1 body parts was not around.

I got talking to the father of the woman who lived across the way from us. He use to work at BL Speke in Liverpool. He told me that for a short while they assembled the Mini bodies and then shipped them out..... bare! How true? I cannot be sure, but it does sound plausable lol
