So iv just bought a mini with a 1275 engine and a 'stage 1' kit fitted but the plan is to go turbo so whilst I collect all the parts I need over the next few month I'd like to get some more out of my NA engine in the mean time......so if I was to get a turbo head now would it improve performance on my current engine or would it be more of a hindrance and make me lose power?

No good, compression ratio will be far too low, leave the engine as it is, and build the turbo motor from a new engine would be my advice, so that you can continue using the car/have a spare known working engine.

it will most likely reduce the power but depends on you target CR and the head itself modified/unmodified etc.

Just leave it standard until you need to rebuild it for turbo use. No doubt the Pistons won't be up to scratch and you'll need new ones it would be easier to just wait.

If you have a bigger budget do as Carl said. Build a new engine. It takes quite a lot of time to get everything sorted.

Or get a second hand head, and have that worked to your 'turbo spec' ready for when you do go turbo.

As Harry says then have. The chambers opend out when you need to go turbo

I may be wrong here but the cc is the same in the metro turbo head? They are something like 21.4cc in all 940 heads it's just the Pistons that are different in the metro....if that's right?

A standard head has the same chamber volume yes, but generally the chambers on a modified head are opened up to reduce compression, hence the points above
