any reason that it may be bad to use 1/2" NPT barbed fittings on the rad for the main in/out flow?
the std size is about an inch i think ill run 1" lines and reduce down to the 1/2" NPT threads into the rad but if this is a bad idea or theres a stupid simple reason not to do it ill cut the 1/2" NPT threaded bungs off and put a 1" bit of pipe on there and just stick a worm clamp on there

im trying to fit a 1" thick rad in and thats the in/out its got so id like to use it if i can but if not ill hack it off and weld some 1" tube on the tank

thoughts?

Putting tiny fittings that will heavily restrict flow somewhere where flow is all important...is a bad idea

its a 24" x 12" x 1" thick rad ill be useing with dual 10" fans it they fit

the rad is well up to the job

so dosent the thermostat reduce flow to control temp? if the flow is more than the thermo stat opens than all is well was my thinking but im now thinking this might be the case most of the time but when your well into it and making a good amount of power for a long time things will get hot and the stat may flow more than the 1/2" NPT fitting can flow ?

think ill be cutting the bosses off and welding some 1" tube on the tanks

No, it simply regulates flow through the rad based on temperature. When fully open it does not restrict flow heavily as you are wanting to do with tiny fittings.

You still need to get this into the engine as and when it needs it

Northamptonshire.

If you can get fluid through the rad quick enough with a decent enough fan going smaller shouldn't hurt to much.

Do NOT use 1/2" NPT fittings anywhere on your cooling system for a radiator or otherwise.

ok ill cut the stupid 1/2" NPT fittings off the rad and TIG some bits of 1" tube on there for the hoses to go on that way its all the same dia as the thermo stat houseing at least

i was thinking that maby there was only a small amount of coolant flowing threw the rad as the water pump and head have the bypass and also ive got the heater take off on the head plumbed back in before the thermostat so thought there was plenty of flow around the engine that said ill play it safe and just make it right as there is no point haveing 288 square inches of rad if the hoses cant flow the volume when the stat is wide open and the engine really wants all the flow it can get..

i measured the 1/2" NPT fitting and its 15mm ID not that it matters now..
