not turbo so not sure where to place it. i have "found" a 998 short block +020 overbore. bores look great ( were done when rebuild and never driven since) new flat top pistons etc. pistons sit flush with the block. but thing is. they kept it upside down on a floor and the block has allot of surfrage rust ( head to).
you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

I don't really understand the question, just skim it and make the pistons flush again as normal..

Skimming a few thou off each will be fine even if the pistons were just above deck height as you still have the gasket space.

Ill try it with wire wool. Only point of concern then is the right hand side down corner of the block. Looks a bit deep to me between the pushrod hole and that water way. you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

I was actually thinking about Scotchbrite soap pads (which are wire wool) and for some reason thought that's what Jonny meant too... although I agree, it does make sense to start with the green pads.

Try emery roll wrapped round a nice flat file.

Emery roll... another one for google there. And yes thats the plan. The story is that the short block was build by keith calver ( if i Wright it right) yet gona pul the pistons out and start from there... you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

I'd try some 800 wet and dry around a block lubricated with some light oil first.

the design shows a distinct lack of imagination, talk about starting off with a clean sheet of paper, then not bothering to fucking draw on it,lol On 20th Apr, 2012 Paul S said:

If you do need to skim the block, the pistons sticking up a few thou won't be an issue. What will said, less mess and keeps stuff flat all over I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

well i went to look for some sponges at moms house and once home went straight at it. head cleaned up nice but that block will need a skim for sure. to me it looks like the head can take up quite some cc's so compression want be an issue. the only doubt now is do i have the block honed or not. pistons sit nice and snug now and dont want to much space between bore and piston.

800grit on the block? No chance. That needs a skim. Head looks fine though. |
