just wanting to get an idea on what brands guys are useing and how they have found them

wondering if its worth the big bucks for a name or if a no name cheep cheep will suffice

clearly a branded one should be faster to get full boost, have a lower charge air temp, flow better and last for many years

but are the cheep ones really that bad? what do you use and hows it been doing?

Ive used Garrett, mitsubishi, holset and some chink knock off garrett x2
The chinky (chineese) knock off Garret was apparently fitted with genuinee garrett bearings and was squashed into standard sized turbine housing i gave it death for over 2 years for the best part of that it ran at the max boost it could give

It came off the car with next to zero play and i flogged it on it almost payed for its self

Ive got a copy GT30 on my vtec mini its the same one guys are running on skylines up to 500 bhp and there lasting quite well

My mitsubishis and garrets were faultless too

The holset spools up rediculously quick for its size and are made to do 100k miles a time on boost hauling trucks and buses about
Ive seen how we treat them at work and im happy to run one on the car

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Might be better posting exactly which units you are referring to ?

What are you classing as cheap and expensive ?

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

from what ive seen it appears that the copys are better on the larger frame turbo's, I think this is due to any differences being a smaller percentage out on a larger turbo.

aparently loads of people are using gt30's and the like and they are fine, somthing like a gt17 maybe less so
