Hi folks

Joined on here some a while back, found the forum to have plenty of 16v builds and be a great source for information. Everyone seems to be really helpful going by other threads and members.

Unfortunately for now there will be no turbo but ive plans to build a 1293 bottom end form a spare engine i have once ive this car built.

Mini ownership started for me over 7 years ago at the age 15, looking back i never knew it was going to become such an addiction. It all started with a Mpi mini which turned out to be a rot box

Shell got a full restoration with any panel showing rust replaced, left a very nice car. Done the typical thing of fitting sportspacks and 13*7 wheels and drove it as and when i could afford to due to the insurance. I then moved to Oxford to study at brookes but unfortunately I had to leave that and move home.

2014 started at the car again changing all the suspension, rims, interior and just generally anything that annoyed me before hand

Ran the car for the summer and decided it really needed an engine to fully enjoy it, so I took the car of the road stripped it again and bought a gti polo, was supposed to be kept standard but it never happened. Ended up mapped on coilovers, brakes flywheels and a rather rare set of bbs ch 006 in 17x8.5" 5x100 fitment

Its now for sale so I can finish this for my best mates wedding next summer

Hid the wiper motor

Have it booked in for a weld in cage to msa regs at Wishart Motorsport in February as well as tub the rear arches and make a pedal box mount on the cage

Plan overall is to run a nice spec 1380 with prepped crank and rods etc, rebuild box with drops and close ratios all topped of with a nice quaife diff.

Visually it will be getting a full respray in island blue or similar, some group 5 arches and plenty of mk1 styling.

Cheers for looking

Cheers fella's

Yea, I get bored if im not changing things. Driving it is never enough

I hope so, I was happy with it but When you take it to a mini show and there is 20+ minis with the same arches and color scheme that bores me, Im really into the Old school vw stuff as thats what my mates all have, so im hoping to build the car to the same standard they are and have something that doesn't seem so generic.

I am currently in Lurgan but will be moving to Ballymena (hey!) early next year. I seem to miss portrush every year as the Mini is never quite finished. I will get there 2016 some how.

Cheers Chaps, yes wheels where my favourite purchase so will be 1 of the only things staying this time just fitting them with some sticky tyres.

Ordered a quaife diff, and mini spares straight cuts for it today.

Postman payed a visit during the week, bringing a nice diff and some rods

Waiting on a med flywheel, straight cut gears and a kad internal linkage this week.

Need to get a crank sorted soonish and start looking at getting the head welded, everyone ive spoke to seems reluctant to take it on, keep telling me they warp to much.

Cheers for looking

Update time

bought some more parts

Also made a start on my cooling system after some advice from brett on here i bought the correct cing rad

took some trimming but its in

thermostat will be going in the joint between the 2 90 degree bends, as for the bottom hose i have a 180 bend coming of the back of the pump onto a 45 which then goes to a reducing 90, rear outlet on the pump will need a small angle adjustment.

Next up was getting the bonnet to fit, im admit this has to sit flush, so after the 1st attempt

So gutted the x member

it isnt siting correct on this but it did sit flat until i fitted the end plate. Also spent some time sorting how i wanted the car to sit, bit of trimming and filing on the rear HiLos, when that was done i started to fit the arches

Next was to try sort the clearance issue, decided to chop some cross-member and weld a new bit in, about 10-15mm clearance from this

made some mounts for an itg filter which allows clearance on throttle quadrant

next up was to start painting, completely bare metaled the floor pan, sprayed with epoxy primer and then upol raptor

Next up is the interior, hope to have it done in the next few weeks

From here I enlisted help form a buddy to paint the engine bay, for this I spent alot of time flushing out any holes and brackets that were not needed. The end result will leave a very minimal engine bay with as little clutter as possible

When I had the subframes out I had all arms and the frames blasted, following this I painted all parts individually before re- assembling with new parts from mini spares and CC Minis

Following this all was assembled to allow the shell to become rolling again

This allowed me to check the ride height again

In the quest to get a standard bonnet my steel bonnet became to flimsy, thought id try a FG item

Decided to for some Quick latch fasteners, these proved to be great and after a lot of trying to dislocate the bonnet from the latches they held up really well, to secure the front I went with some leather straps for a bit of a retro look

and another look at the bay
