I'm currently upgrading and doubling up my toolkit so I can keep a set at both the house and workshop.

Currently, the look is now at screwdriver sets; I've got a bit of a mix of stuff from cheap mastergrip out of Costco up to snap-on which are pretty worn out now.

there seams to be a significant selection on the interweb and I'm a little lost on what is going to be good or bad. Don't really want to go to the extend of snap-on cost but willing to spend on the right set. There is a nice Teng set for around £35 although I've actually been quite happy with some of the Stanley ones I've got.

anyone got any suggestions?

cheers
Rob

I've got a Halfords set for in the house duties, perfectly adequate for changing plugs etc.
Facom stuff is always nice, I bought a set for my lads at work and they like them. Stanley stuff also seems OK.

I have a set of bahco screwdrivers for work and they're by far the best i've used!

Swansea boyo!

I got a set of bahco screwdrivers from Clas Ohlson for about £10 a while back and they are a really good set of screwdrivers!

Facom or more recently, Wera, especially their kompakt sets as I had to reduce down the weight and space for air travel. Really good stuff!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Cheers all. Will have a look at the options.

Anyone used Beta tools? Thry keep popping up but no real indication of the quality. I'm looking for something with a tray to sit in the toolbox and most of their stuff comes in some sort of tray (i know the tray is the least technical element in the consideration on quality!)

I'll second the wera screw drivers! There top notch! A proper tradesman tool, you don't see any sparkies without them! There impact driver drill tips are brilliant too, super hard and not made of cheese

had a look at the Wera stuff but none appear to come with a tray for the tool box; I really want to try and keep my tools better organised so I don't loose things

I think most of the brands mentioned will be good. Halfords Pro probably the cheapest.

Teng are masters of putting things in trays, the problem is they don't fit in all makes of drawers - I picked up a nice s/h Snap On cab but the Teng trays are too tall.
Actually the trays are fine, its just the sets that use moulded inserts that the tools sit too high. I think the screwdrivers don't stick up though.

Yes wera kompact are awesome... No tray but a little pouch to keep it all nice and neat, and like it suggests.. Compact! 👍

I've got about 6 sets of those Halfords ones they give away with a can of oil. Can't fault them.

Best of the bunch of wera kompakt as far as mechanical screwdrivers go are these http://www.toolventure.co.uk/hand-tools/wer-002990.html they are the closest thing to a proper set of drivers, but pack nicely into a pouch thats much smaller than a full set of normal drivers. Do you really need a handle for every driver when you only use one at a time *laughing* I just dont get on with all those little 'bits'. They keep falling out of the driver and the driver is cumbersome.

All looks fine but ideally i'd like a simple set in a tray Colin so i can see when something is missing. I've a terrible habit of not tidying my tools away at times and end up with them all over the place. Would really like something that encourages me to keep them all organised

I agree that keeping my things tidy is a mindset really. I try to make a point of having the last 10 min in the garage before I go in, tidying things away. It's so much nicer to go in the next time, full of enthusiasm to do whatever, and be able to get cracking straight away without having to search for tools or clear off the bench first etc.

agree tidiness is in the mind - clearly it missed me though! Hence I need to do something to try and encourage me to keep it up
