If your looking small, the vrs would be a strong contender. I loved the mk4 golf but mk5 was a bit plastic. Audi feels a bit better finished but will come Dow to price and spec I suppose |

Anything with the 1.9 tdi 130 should be good as long as it has been maintained. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

I have a passat estate 130 as I need something large for work. It's been good for the last 4 years but it's getting g a bit ropey now. It does have 170k

170k, thats just run in! Matt has some stupid mileage on his if i recall correctly something in the 300k mark

Same engine as mine just 4 wheel drive, that's a fun car and good on fuel. I'm sure the normal front wheel drive a3 is just as fun if you were to get a 130 model. |

2 litre is OK but I wouldn,t touch a 1.6 Hdi engine in a cheap diesel.

A Ford main dealer will not replace a turbo on a 1.6Hdi unless they also replace the engine.

Had a mondeo 2l diesel. 130k the dual mass flywheel went. Then the injectors went. Then the clutch went. I had to call the rac out 3 times in the year and a half ownership! Never ever will I get a Ford again!

I chopped my a4 in with 198k on the clock. Everything worked, never had to replace more than service items in 150k miles. On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

I could tell you an equally shit tale of a £35k audi that had less than half that mileage!

Cheers guys. Although I've only just read most of these responses, after buying a Seat Ibiza FR Tdi. Great fun to drive and a claimed 60mpg.

Keep on top of oil and filter changes, the standard intervals are in my opinion too far apart and set with 5 year servicing costs to sell to customers in mind rather than the longevity of the engine and turbo. Every 10k miles IMO.

I changed the oil in the Focus every 5000 and it still fucked the turbo - twice ! |
