Well, after somehow managing without one for too long, I now own another pickup...

Those who know me, know I pretty much buy old cars and run them into the ground, well this is an exception!
It's a 2011 F150 with the "ecoboost" engine - factory figures of 365hp and 420lb ft, although there are a few miles under it so the real bananas and curlywurly's are unknown. But fuck - something this heavy and ungainly is not supposed to be this quick - we aren't talking RangeRover Sport handling!!!

So far I've done about 400 miles, and am amazed that is you sit at 65 on the motorway, it'll do 27mpg (25mpg US lol)... But put your foot into it, and single-digits are very possible...

Anyways, very large, and very heavy, but totally "fuck yeah" (as they say round these 'ere parts) in every other way...
Best bit is, no warranty. I feel a new intercooler and better exhaust will be set up on the tig in the next few months!!!

I'm on the east coast now and a merc S and bwm 7 looks like a smallish car over here.. and it's not even pick up country. oh and driving is like that thing that gets in the way of texting.. I'd be reluctant to drive a mini here cause of fear of getting t-boned by a texting mum in a suv.

Nope... The bed is only 6.5ft long... You can't get the 8ft bed with the big cab...

I don't think it will fit in my garage lengthways either,,, bugger,,,

Dave you are so lucky.

I got back from a holiday driving in the mid-west, it was one of the best holidays I've ever had.

We hired a ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi. My Mrs wants an f150 for the uk. And after driving the ram, I can see why.

I've seen they can get more than 600hp from the 3.5L eco boost. What are you aiming for?

Tom. The engine in that truck, is a 3.5L v6 with twin turbos. Putting out ~360hp stock.

Newer models can also have a 2.7L version which puts out ~300hp.

An updated 3.5 is coming soon with more power.

It is fords attempt to have v8 power but better fuel economy. I think it is just short of hip compared to the 5l v8 but has much more torque.

LOL, sadly yes. But then, so has the UK I believe!!!

Yup, as mentioned, it's twin turbo, and is a very pleasant experience!

I drove a few of the V8's, and was actually looking to get one of them, and then I found this one... While the V8 is a great engine in the mustang, and a better v8 than they used to put in the F150's, the torque and acceleration of this thing sold itself - and the economy is simply unbelievable - but then again, it's boosting from about 1000rpm, and it drops into 6th at 42mph on the level (at 1100 rpm).

As far as modifying, who knows... a big intercooler and new exhaust are on the list, but the one thing I really want to look into is making a new inlet manifold, to include conventional port injectors, which will take care of some additional fuel, but also fix the direct-injection plague of gummed up valves...
About the only REAL worrying thing with the ecoboost, is that the rods are made of chocolate it seems. Folks have had standard engines send a rod through the block while pottering about!

Jim. It not gay. It's red.

According to "Full Race" the factory log exhaust manifold is smaller in diameter than either the port in the head or the turbo.

This was done by ford to reduce spool time.
