Anywhere in the centre really, depends what your after, luchias in swine gate is good, la piazza for Italian is great, cute little pub called the habit is opposite. Indian theres mumbai lounge which is a bit poncy but nice. Were off to la tasca, tapas bar on Saturday. Best advice stay up towards the top end of town, it gets shittyer as you go over the bridge lol. Boozers, there's harkers opposite bettys tea rooms which is ok, yee old starre, stonegate yard, hole in the wall is one high peter gate nice some other good pubs on there whos names escape me.

A great thing to do is walk the city walls, you can see shit loads and keep dropping off to go in pubs lol, you can drop off near foss islands near the big sainsburys and go in the black swan which is the oldest pub in york for one but its just out of town on its own, nothing round it

The maltings is a nice pub if you like real beer, right next to my office too, just off lendal bridge. If you like trains, then the pub at the station is also a real ale place.

Rougier street for oriental an foreign restaurants, grape lane area for more British grub.

Have fun.

Guy Fawkes Inn is good for beer and food. Still lit by gas lamps as well.

I'm sure you'll find yourself on the Shambles, but people often fail to notice that there is the Shrine to Margaret Cliterow there, which you can go inside and see what something other than a shop interior looks like.

There are lots of pubs on Micklegate, but it is a bit of a cattle market these days. As said, head further in over the bridge and the pubs get better, but a bit more pricey.

The railway museum is fantastic. Lots of big engineering and best of all it's free.

Lol, the Guy Fawkes is not still lit by gas lamps, more accurate to say it's gone back to gas lamps 😉

It was lit with gas last night, stayed till closing, rail museum was excellent, seing as most attractions are about a tenner i gave them that as a donation, lots of lovely metal in there its worth preserving, was glad to see they had windows in the side of a deltic so i could see in, bit dissapointed i had to use the torch on my phone as there was no light! Wish they had one out and on a stand!

There is a sectioned deltic on a stand in the main hall. Very interesting it is too (not that I go that often).

North Yorkshire Moors railway get their deltic out now and again, it sounds most excellent.

Its not there anymore, only a 2D animated model instead. A little disappointed, I went and asked where it was, and I spent the next 3/4 of an hour talking to one of the staff. He said that about 2 years ago, he turned up one morning and the engine was gone, apparently loned to the engine museum in Gloucestershire. He then took us round to the warehouse where he showed us what was once a fully working model of a 9 cylinder Deltic engine and generator, supercharger and all, maybe 1:18 scale or there abouts.

Flying Scotsman out and under fire for tomorrows run out to Carlisle.

Great day out, never managed to see everything before they kicked us out, so a return trip might be on the cards.
