Hi, I’m a mini nut and have been for the last 20 years..... 2 years ago I purchased a 1971 custom mini which had a MG Turbo in it. I drove it all the way back from York and loved every minute of it. I have then spent the last couple of years restoring bodywork and doing some customisation myself. I have not touched the engine and have been trying to start it over the last couple of months but have had very little joy. I’ve managed to get it going but literally for 20-30 secs and then it dies. I’ve changed the fuel and plugs but being a turbo I’m lost and losing the will with it. If anyone can shed some advice on what I should be looking for, or alternatively can recommend someone around the sevenoaks area in kent that could take a look that would be great. Once I get it running it will give me the final push to get it back on the road. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers J

Does it have a spark? Is the fuel pump running whilst it is cranking? Has the engine been out/apart?

There’s definitely a spark and no the engine hash”t been out. As I mentioned I have fired it up but it literally runs for 20-30 seconds and then I’ll try again and it won’t even fire. with the fuel pump it is using an MPI tank and I have a switch on the dash which when I turn on I hear wurring away.. The only thing I have done is change some of the pipework to braided hoses from the carb to the regulator.

Welcome to TM.

When it cuts out, switch the fuel pump off and see if there is fuel in the float bowl. Have you tried running the pump with the fuel hose disconnected, and pointed into a container to see if you have constant fuel flow?

I've just taken some pictures which I will try and upload. One thing I did notice is the nut on the end of the regulator was really loose. I'm assuming this is just a lock nut and isn't the adjuster for the regulator

Hi mate, can't help you with the engine issues, but just wanted to say I'm glad there is a mini owner not far from me! I'm in Tonbridge and the gf lives in Sevenoaks. Where abouts are you from?

Here is the mini that I have bid on and will hopefully be the new owner of this coming week (my first ever mini). http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151862002914?_tr...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Needs a few bits doing, so would be great if I could pop down and see yours and gather some knowledge from you!

Cheers

Sam

Who doesn't feel even a little bit happier when a classic mini drives past them.
