Shame for the car. Lucky you got out.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

Gutted man, that's 100% an electrical fire from where it is situated

From what I can see the pipe leaving the mechanical fuel pump to the carb had split

The car sort of stuttered then died while driving, having just jump started it I thought it was the battery and as it was still rolling dropped the clutch in second a few times then woomfh straight up

So basically while it was still running off the fuel in the float bowl it had covered the bulkhead and hot lcb in fresh fuel
I then helped it some more by trying to bump it 😄

Think the fact the fuel tank was empty and just filled it up didn't help so could have been some crap blocking the line or just an old rubber hose

I know I shouldn't be laughing but the mental image I have of someone rolling out of a flaming mini. Your in good spirits about it, I'd be gutted.

Damn, that looks bad but I suppose could have been much worse. How long was it burning?

As Carl says, it does look electrical. Any smell of petrol recently?

Wasn't electrical was fuel pipe related
I'm mainly glad I got out ok, then I was pleased the car is saveable as at the time it looked like it was gunna tear through the lot
Especially with the wind blowing it towards the rear of the car

And my iPhone 6s that was on the passenger seat survived the fire & the high powered water too lol

Yeah is abit more work but nothing a few days and couple of ££ can't fix
Could have been a lot worse and a damn site more expensive!
Will put a project thread 😄

Fuel on a hot manifold will not ignite, most likely the vapours were subject to a spark somewhere

I've experienced this very thing with a split hose coming off the mechanical fuel pipe and vapours igniting off a halogen lamp so its quite possible and looking at the damage, if it had been electrical related I would have expected a great deal more fire damage around the bulkhead before it took out the carb, filter housing etc

all in all, you've been lucky not to loose the car

petrol autoignites at just under 300 degrees. I'v experienced similar as well tho thankfully just brake cleaner and only a little squirt as was cleaning up an oil dribble

EDIT glad your ok, that fuel line was my second biggest "fear" in the mini, right after the positive battery lead chewing thro the boot floor lol
