I know some like Simon have got a huge amout of weight out of their cars however with standard subframes front and rear what total weight could a mini realistically get down to?

Mine was 633kg with a 12kg half cage all steel and glass with full doors, full subbys altgough the rear was modified to carrie a large diffuser
Straight pipe exhaust, genuineee carbone seats and boot lid, with the small cinq rad and no fuel
Edit: hadna flat boot made from thin steel.. saved quite a chunk that did

I may be the only tm'er who purposely gained weight lol

I'm wondering whether to leave the rear subby in my next project, Just seems very nose heavy at the moment.

I was aiming for the high 500's with old mini and all steel.

Also depends on how you want it to look Neil, I have always been more function over form and if you remember I drilled a lot of my mini to save weight.

Remember you also have a full cage so you could can remove a lot more.

I can't remember what you have done to yours but if you need a hand at any point or want pictures of what I did to mine just let me know.

Slightly off topic but now aiming to get my r100 to the high 600's low 700's.

No build thread lads sadly. I dont play with mini`s sadly. Too much effort for the performance of them. Ive got some photos knocking about somewhere ill drag them out.

errr relevant bits....

carbon bits. All infused:

Bonnet
Front end
Doors
Roof
Rear 1/4`s
boot lid
Boot floor
Inner skin cut away
4mm poly windows.
Single carbon shell seat
Rear seat squab cut away
Steering column rail replaced with t45 tube
custom steering column
custom pedal box
20l ally fuel tank
Kad rear arms
Kad rear disk brakes
Kad alloy front hubs
Kad alloy front drive flanges
Kad 7.5 inch 4 pot calipers. Solid disks
KAD tie rods
internal linkage with aluminum tube.
Rewired throughout.
haltech instrument panel on a carbon panel.
plastic front lights
small bore block
Minisport 7 port head.
Jenvey throttle bodies
Carbon air box.

All in a mk2 shell....I know i know......

I currently play with audi`s. Ive got a daily s3 that runs low 12`s but im building up another s3 and hoping to get under 1200kg and over 600hp. Getting the weight out is more of a task then getting power out of it. I want a 10 second 1/4 mile out of it.

Well i welded 12kg extra steel to my front subby and fitted a second diff just for fun lol also added over 40kg of cage to the 12 it already had

The boot lid was an afterthought but it does have a removable steel front and steel bonnet

a 490 mini would not be a sensible road car, and it seems unlikely that it was achieved with standard front and rear subrames.

My hillclimber with a cage was 540 with front and rear subframes, both had been attacked with a hole saw.

I reckon 640 would be a good road car. And by that I mean one where your ears don't bleed every time you drive it. It keeps water out when it rains and is secure. And it need no more maintenance owing to fragile bits that need replacing every 500 miles.

640 - tick
ears dont bleed - fail
Keeps water out - now it does - tick
Secure - tick
doesnt need much maitenenance - tick *smiley*

I agree 490 is not reachable with standard subbys... and carbon rear quarters? Never seen them before

If mine was 386kgs before, then add 20ish kgs to gain the weight of std subframes thats still only a smidge over 400 and it locked, kept water out and is very comfortable to drive although it is loud but I like that

I seriously doubt it!

Tbh, the aluminium panels only make around 14kgs difference over steel so, I dont see why you cant get to 420kgs

I seriously doubt it!

It was shit is the best way of putting it. Would I do it again If i had a mini? Nope. Not a chance.

But no not "standard" sub frames. But surely this discussion is about not changing to a tube front style and "beam" on the rear? They has as much taken out of them as I dared.

Its all down to a simple principle really. Can i simplify the part. can i make it from a lighter material can l lighten it? Every component on the car has to go through it. The blue sprint is testament to that on an extreme level and the fact hes managed to keep the parts looking presentable and nice is awesome.
