having a relatively clean day job, I need to keep my hands clean or spend hours scrubbing at the end of a shift on the car. I generally used latex gloves but current box is now empty so thinking about replacements.

For delicate / clean work / paint, I switched from latex to nitrile as they just seemed to last a lot longer (Bodygaurd brand). Their chemical resistance is good for most chemicals that I use (except Acetone!) If you use some nasty chemicals, it's best to find a chart to compare them, as no glove will work for everything.

The ones we use at work are called contour avengers, they're nice and thin cotton gloves, best of both. On 26th Jan, 2012 Tom Fenton said:

I use black ones from GSF - 'Comfit' or some bollocks. They seem strong and are cheap enough. |

I use large bodygard nitrile. buy a box of boxes off ebay when im close to running out, last fairly well, as an occational user a box of boxes will last you a long time. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

For general work I use any cheap work gloves like the ones Brett posted (and nitrile underneath if it's bathed in oil or chemicals). Spending more than the cheapest ones never got me a better glove. Buy several and find a brand that fits best. I used to use the same nitrile, much better than latex plus they dont stink. Mostly I just use the thin black cloth type gloves. Really, with a half decent set of gloves there is very very little car work you cant do whilst still wearing gloves. Other cleaning option is Arco do some great waterless wipes, they clean far better than most water based hand cleaners ! 9.85 @ 145mph

Was looking at arco stuff earlier as we've got an account but not necessarily the best value, even with our discount |

To be fair, i'd use gauntlets with the grinder. I'm looking for something for the mechanic side of things |

I find you lose too much feel with gauntlets on. TIG welders gloves protect you from the sparks etc but leave you with some feel and dexterity.

Rob, don't forget whatever you do make sure you run a piece of string attached form one glove up your sleeve and down to the other so they cannot fall off your hand and end up in the bottom of the gearbox.lol |

If i think of it i use operation gluves ( the wife works in a hospital...) verry thin yet super strong and resistant to chemicals. Yet i am brought up bad and even for welding and grinding rarely use gloves. :-S you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
