A good few weeks back i took it out for a run after installing a fuel reg.
when you accelerate it pops/backfires as it boosts

If it's backfiring from the exhaust, it's isusly because it's too rich.

More info would be good.

What fuel regulator. Why did you change it? Was is like this before changing the regulator?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Wasn't running a fuel reg before but was pushing out black smoke. I haven't driven it far since the restoration so im just guessing at what's wrong.

2.5psi should work fine. Remember the pis at idle is just the pressure above boost that the pump will maintain to keep fuel flowing into the float bowl.

Popping and banging is more likely an issue with a lean mixture. My guess is that the float bowl isn't being presurised.

Search 'T piece trick' on here and try that first.
