Hi Guys,

Current crankshaft is a bit tired and wondering what my best option would be. Taper, thrust faces and big ends all showing signs of wear / abuse however its done me well for a number of years and regularly seen 8,000RPM. Its had a bit of work done in terms of lightening and balancing and its been reliable up until now.

Dont think i need to go steel, so my options are,

* save this crank and get machine shop to sort all of the above, guessing this is going to be relatively expensive? Will phone my local place to find out but interested to hear what people reckon a fair price is.

* purchase a new crank, something like this : http://www.minisport.com/1275cc-wedged-crankshaft.html

*pickup an unknown, good 2nd hand item reconditioned item - whats the going rate for something in good condition thats had a bit of work done?

Finally, what spec crank should i be looking at for a k1200 turbo with a 200bhp target, max revs would be 7,500 i would think....

Cheers,
Nick

Your main problem will be the taper. If its shagged i dont think its really possible to bring it back. Depends how bad you think bad is tho. Ive seen them used when they look quite buggered.

If your expecting 7500rpm id expect to be using a worked crank myself. That comes down to wedging, a good polish and tuftriding basically.

I would get another worked, especially if yours has had a hard life and needs more than a straight forward grind.

Probably overkill and not cheap, but Swiftunes 5 journal crank looks class. ( 2 floating journals )

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
