I'm looking for an estate car that I can use to lug things around in, put the dog in and use to drive daily to work (12 miles on country roads). I want it to still be a fun car to use (I'm currently in the mini).
I've got a budget of about £2400. What're people's recommendations, and what're the known high mileage failures for your suggestion?

Thanks

V70 T5, just make sure the front suspension has been replaced or factor it in at that price bracket

Again, front suspension.

I think every car has issues with front suspension the roads are all crap now

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

now I'm not a BMW lover but you'd get a good 3 series touring for that sort of cash or a 1.8T A4 (assume the bigger engines may be a bit thirsty) 1.8 can map up well

Get a 190 if you get a 1.8t as they have a bigger turbo. Don't expect more than 220 from a map though.

Cheers guys,

I've found a BMW 330i SE Touring.

105,000 miles

£1995

Going to go and see that.

Also found an A4 Avant S Line but it has done 184,000 miles so a little dubious. Up for £1900 However, the guy has only had it since April and selling already. It has just had the engine warning light come on too so I'd take my diagnostic tool to check out what it was.

The 3l turbo diesel 3 series tourers are really good engines, really powerful and good on fuel. A mate of mine has had two and forever giving it stick whilst putting loads of miles on for work.

There's a very good reason why the 330 petrol only has 100k on it and that will be the amount of fuel it will use! Think very carefully is my advice!
I would personally look for an A4 1.9 TDI PD130 quattro then change the clutch and have it mapped. 180bhp with shit loads of torque, 4wd so it will just put it down and fuck off, and still 45mpg+.
I had the 2wd version of the same thing until a couple of years ago, one of the best cars I have ever owned, just the traction issues with the 2wd were the only thing that really spoiled it.
I sold it my mate when I bought my 535d, it's still going strong for him at 180k miles or so now.

I love my mondeo, but not nearly as much as my old Subaru legacy spec b. If you're happy with less than 30mpg they're great.

Brake callipers need replacing at 100k and I had a faulty centre diff. Clutches don't last forever and its a 1k job.

Tom makes a good shout on the 130 PD Quattro. The 1.9 is an easy engine to drive quickly and our gerts 1.8t 190 quattro sticks like shit to a blanket
