I used a bike carb for years on my supercharged 998. The rolling road blocked an air hole, new jets and made a custom needle and it worked great! I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

The issue that you have is finding big enough to flow . As the bikes use one per cylinder. I think the r1 are about 41mm I used a 38mm but I can't remember what the bike was, a big 900cc thing.

A set of harley carbs would do to... yet do not know what the profit would be and like apbellamy says... maybe a flown hif is stil the best thing. you can do anything if you set your mind to it...

i;m using 12 gsx600 38mm ones , with a 660 cc cylinder size , but they are just throttle bodies and the fuel goes through a lpg mixer.
Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM |

hi guys, im interested in the bike carb route for my own 998 turbo build. would the likes of the 44mm mikuni be suitable for a blow through application under boost? is it a sealed unit? |

If you want to use a carb on a turbo, the HIF is the best and simplest choice.

Don't get the whole appeal of this bike carb craze. It does seem to be quite a 'thing' at the moment.

It is not new. Back in the sixties when I were a lad, we fitted twin Amals to Minis and even further back some tuners used four Amals on other( four port) engines.

The main advantage is that they are not all worn out.

I used to use a pair off a cbr 1000 (half a bank) on my 1330 n/a engine. Dave Bogg set it up on their rollers and it ran well. Took them off when I went to the current spec (296/ full race head) as they ran out of legs so swapped to a 45 weber. We considered a pair of vtr 1000 carbs, as they are 52mm iirc. No turbo experience though. |
