Here is the problem:

Our company has recently disabled all the USB ports on all company computers to prevent virus's and data theft (totally understandable)!
The big problem i have is that I need to occasionally get files onto the water-jet, which uses a 100% stand-alone, non-networked computer and recieved files via the USB.

I have been emailing myself the files and using my home computer to transfer to a USB and using that, but it means I basically have a 24hr turn-around. So I thought, well I can just download the file to my ifone, and then plug my phone into the waterjet computer and transfer the file.

I know this would have been easy on android, but I can't find the location of downloaded (non image/video) files on the I-phone... Does it not save them?

Any other bright ideas on how to work around this - short of keeping a laptop in my car - or buying a non apple device (which is sorely tempting). I think I preferred android...

If you sneaked a copy of ITunes onto the waterjet machine, would the files show up then? (Not really cluded up on Iphones).

Have they locked down the CD drives? Perhaps keep a rewriteable CD / DVD to hand.

They have gone to town... I can't even copy images from my computer to the phone. The 1394 is also disabled...

I do have another thought; I've got an old blackberry that works but is "off network" and the visitor wi-fi password... So, I guess that means I can em myself the dxf, then connect my old blackberry to the wifi to download the file, and then plug the blackberry into the waterjet...

It just might work... LOL

Still doesn't explain what happens to files I open on a iBone... I'm thinking it opens them, but doesn't actually save them?

As somebody who works in IT causing pain like this for living, the best approach is to ask them to allow you access to usb again. You have a valid business reason for having that access, so it should be a no brainer for you to have it again.

Our company also blocks USB ports, but they do allow the use of encrypted USB sticks that they supply for users who need to use them.
You could ask if this could be an an option for you.
