Hi

I've done a search and found the best way to cool the gt17 turbo is to tap into the block near the water pump.
I'm after a pic of this done if someone has one?

I'm planning on returning it to the thermostat housing spacer.

Thanks
Josh

Just an idea but close the bypas hose in the head and use the bypass from the pump to route it trough the turbo

With a restriction if needed

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

That's a very good idea!

Another one... what size do the turbo water pipes need to be?

Thanks

Hi

Is there any reason I couldn't use the bypass from the water pump as the feed to my turbo?
Then return it straight into a pipe I'm thinking of brazing in the filler neck of the rad?

Thanks
Josh

I have the coolant feeds with my turbo.

I just need to work out the best way to plumb it into the engine.

How have you done it?

the blue pipe that runs just under manifold go,s to the top radiator hose with the take off for spi inlet manifold and the other lower one go,s to the bottom radiator hose that has the return pipe built in

I'm not sure how you've plumbed in your return to the top hose?
Have you cut a bottom hose up?

I've been thinking as well. I can't use water pump bypass take off for the turbo feed as it pumps water the wrong way!! lol

Hi JT,
I'll have a look through my pictures today and post how mines done,.

Basically I've come off the back of the block and returned back to the radiator.

Luckily my block already had a blanking plug from the factory but have know of members drilling and tapping there blocks in the same location, you will need to modify you radiator though.

Water take off on rear of block.

Water return to top of radiator straight from turbo.

Hope these help, there not the best of pictures but it gives you an idea.

Yes there is a very good reason why you couldnt use the bypass hose on the water pump. This will be at the same ppressure if not less than the top of the rad, ergo no flow.

Cheers guys.

I think I'm going to drill and tap into the back of my block. Maybe at the water pump end if possible as it'll be cooler water.
Then return it to the top of the rad. I have a coupe of knackered rads I'll practice on for the return mod.

Cheers chaps :)

Personally, I take the water from the head tapping.

Contentious, but I believe that the turbo does not need cooler water, just water to support the cooling of the turbo bearings by the oil.

The differences in water temperature from the head or from the block nearer the water pump is just a few degrees.
