As above, we had a little problem with the engine on our dyno at University, do you reckon we could save it with a bit of JB weld or similar? *smiley*

JB WELD easy fix :)

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

Rings look a bit iffy. Best change them to be on the safe side.

What happened there then?

Clearly something escaped, but the rod is still in one piece?

I'm mainly concerned about swirl in the runners caused by the tangential entry.

thats what i was wondering wil ,

i guessed the engine detonated , seized ,then piston glued to the liner , fractured the liner ,and shoved the piece of cylinder wall out the side ,unless a whole valve dropped in and sat sideways .

Medusa + injection = too much torque for the dyno ..https://youtu.be/qg5o0_tJxYM

What happened? Good question.
What we have determined is that the piston flipped 90 degrees forward, then proceeded to take a trip around the crank shaft counter weights and give the head a little beating.
The engine was running high speed, low load when it occurred, but we aren't sure what caused the piston to flip.

The annoying thing is we had it rebuilt about two weeks before this by a reputable motocross engine builder who has a good knowledge of these engine albeit not turbocharged, which cost us a fair few bob.

We had an aftermarket piston fitted on the builders recommendation, which could have been a contributing factor. The piston seemed intact for the most part, bent yes, but mainly in one part.

Both exhaust valves were extremely bent, not sure if they got stuck and caused it or it happened once the piston had flipped.

I will have a look see what other photos I have.

Possibly one or more valves stuck or lost contact with the cam. once even marginally bent they would stay open, hit the piston very hard and possibly flip it, The rest is consequential damage. Check the contact between open valve and piston from the drawings. what state are the cam lobes in?

'Where does the engine go?'
