As per the title. Must have serial port to connect to an emerald ECU.

What has anyone got?

Rare to find them these days,

Two more options, usb to 232 convertor, or pcmcia 232 card

I prefer the pcmcia option.

Find yourself a nice Dell D630 for pin money on ebay. Ive dropped, spilt coffee on, and generally abused these many times over the years and found them to be infinitely robust - unlike a lot of the later dell's.

I went down the serial/USB adapter route with the megajolt set up and it can be tempremental, hence looking for a laptop.

I do have a 232 PCMCIA card but also no laptop to put it in so i suppose that expands the wanted add a bit

Does anyone have a laptop with a PCMCIA card slot?

Yeah, the usb convertor can be a pain, the pcmcia is much more stable in my experience.

From my experience with Emeralds on 5 or so different cars, if you buy the USB to serial converter that Emerald themselves supply, it will work first time every time. It is quite expensive compared to the generic ones out there, but it 100% works.

For the USB/RS232 converter you basically need one with the FTDI chipset.

The rest are questionable.

PMCIA vs a genuine RS232 connector, you're basically looking at about the same age. PMCIA went shortly after RS232 because USB took over and is smaller than both.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

the problem is 99% of ftdi chips out there are fake.

Just get a USB to serial adapter direct from Emerald. £15 posted. They even take PayPal...
