Hello all,

I was curious to what people thought of these door spreader plates for fibre glass doors?

So i was fitting fibre glass doors to my mini using all the standard hinges and locks handles etc, i thought that if i bolted the hinges straight to the doors it would crack pretty fast and potential break off if the door was leant on.

I decided to get some spreader plates made up that fit inside the fibre glass door and run most of the length of the door, i then bolted the hinges through the door and the spreader plate.

My door now feels fair more sturdy and so far has no signs of cracking.
The ones i have fitted in my doors atm are made from titanium but my friend (who made mine for me) also made a set in plastic, they do look alot nicer and are just as rigid (if not more) than the titanium ones.

Sorry for the massive essay but i was just curious what you guys have done when fitting fibreglass doors and whether you think these are a good idea?

This is mine they are a bit rough round the edges but are super light iv attached a few pics of the plastic ones he made.

That's 10x the size of the spreader plates I've used.

I just used a piece of 1mm alloy a bit bigger than the hinge area.

Yes when i fit mine i was just going to use a small plate just a little bigger than the area bolted like wil describes? Is it any better linking the 2 areas up with one large plate?

Hi,

Tbh i didnt try any other way to begin with so couldnt comment on smaller spreaders. My thinking was the bigger the plate the more rigid it would be. Also as they are linked together and shaped to fit along the inside of the door it was relatively easy to fit them (i dont have the entire innee skin removed so its pretty tight lol)

Have yours worked ok? I went for larger ones as iv seen fibre glass doors cracked easily before and didnt want to take the risk

That is very overkill in my opinion. I'm just using repair washers on my doors.
