Guys, has anyone ever removed the main cross member (under the seats)? Will it leave the shell floppy as a floppy thing or not make much difference. I'm actually thinking of taking it out of a metro , in which it is a lot less substantial than a mini, but mini experiance would be relevent too. I'm going to be strengthening the floors with a couple of bits of shallow section to fit the seats too but wondering wether it needs more than that

id think its fine if running a decant cage as the cage should take the wobble out of the floor pan
imo id leave it there on a road mini for a bit of sides impact strength

I'm pretty sure there have been a few who have but replaced with lower sections in each side of the tunnel. Having said that, I do think it was all in conjunction with cages etc as well

I will be having a cage with dash bar, door X bars and some kind of bar across the heel board kind of area so should be well supported. As always trying to run the weight vs flex gauntlet.

Been done on minis n floor moves when stood on but it does with crossmember anyway.. from what i can remember from my metro id think that was less flimsy than the mini... so go for it

Certainly in a mini according to vizards how to modify your mini book, competition minis shells would tend to sag in the middle so was recommended to have an extra crossmember welded in. So a road car without any crossmember at all would be a bit crazy if you were in a bad crash

Unless replaced by something else, I'd not be removing it. Even worse on the larger Metro tub.

I've seen minis with additional ones to stiffen them up.

Rather than remove it, I'd suggest reducing it in height. The height seems to be governed by the seat mountings. Reducing the height by half maybe?

That's the thing tho. The metro one is much less substantial than the mini one. Appearances can be deceptive tho. Id say the mini one is ott really.

I will be fitting two seat bars insted but I was angling for them to be no more than 20mm high. or me its the height that gives the rigidity tho.
